Queens homicide investigation: Bretford Brewer charged in death of Carlos Penzo
Bretford Brewer, 36, has been charged with homicide following the death of Carlos Penzo in a Queens apartment. According to reports, the victim may have met the suspect through social media for a sexual encounter.
Investigators state that Brewer entered a Long Island City building on July 31, claiming he was there to visit Penzo. Following a 911 call from the victim on August 1, police discovered Penzo deceased in his bathroom with multiple stab wounds. Two kitchen knives were recovered at the scene. Brewer was apprehended after being seen near a rooftop area with a fire extinguisher; a search of his belongings yielded identification and clothing with bloodstains.
