Queens manhole sighting adds to series of NYC sewer mysteries

A person was spotted emerging from a manhole in Middle Village, Queens, early Monday morning near the intersection of Juniper Boulevard South and 74th Street. The individual, believed to be in his 20s and wearing a red and black bandana, reportedly fled the scene with four other men who were surrounding the sewer. No arrests have been made following the incident, which occurred around 4:00 a.m.

This event follows a series of similar sightings across New York City. In May, individuals were seen emerging from manholes in Gravesend and Williamsburg, where investigations suggested people were scavenging the sewer system for items of value. Other recent incidents include a trio of individuals appearing near Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, as well as sightings in Brooklyn. Local residents have expressed concern regarding the safety and nature of these underground activities.
