Queens Murder Suspect Bretford Brewer Arrested for Killing Carlos Penzo
Police arrested 36‑year‑old Bretford Brewer of Brooklyn and charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon after the fatal stabbing of 36‑year‑old Carlos Penzo. Penzo was found dead in the bathtub of his luxury apartment at the Hayden building, 43‑25 Hunter Street, Long Island City, Queens, with multiple stab wounds to the head, face and chest.
Police say the two men had arranged to meet via social media, but a verbal dispute escalated into violence. After the attack, Brewer fled to the 51‑story building’s rooftop, where he was seen nude attempting to destroy security cameras with a fire extinguisher. He later moved through the building and was detained on a lower floor. Prior to being formally charged, Brewer was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. An arraignment at Queens Criminal Court is pending.
