Queens teen charged with murder in Edgemere shooting
A 17-year-old defendant has been charged with second-degree murder and weapon possession following the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Malakai Adams in Edgemere, Queens. The incident occurred on September 21 at the Ocean Bay Apartments.
According to prosecutors, the shooting was a targeted, execution-style attack. The victim was riding a push scooter when the suspect approached and fired two shots, striking him in the back and heart. The defendant allegedly fled the scene using the victim’s scooter and later attempted to hide evidence by changing his clothing in a public restroom.
While initial reports suggested a possible robbery, investigators now indicate the killing may have been motivated by an online dispute between the two teenagers. The suspect, described by sources as a Crips gang associate, was apprehended at his home. If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison.
