Queens woman Wang Jing killed in vehicle collision
A 61-year-old woman, Wang Jing, was fatally struck by a vehicle in the Kew Gardens Hills neighborhood of Queens. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Wednesday as Jing was crossing Union Turnpike near Main Street.
According to the NYPD, the collision involved a 2010 Honda Civic operated by a 56-year-old woman who was attempting a left turn onto Union Turnpike. Police stated that Jing was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the impact. The force of the crash caused severe head trauma. Jing was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver remained at the scene and was not injured. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash, and no arrests have been made. This fatality marks at least the fifth person killed by a vehicle in New York City within the past week, following several recent hit-and-run incidents involving cyclists and pedestrians.
