On August 22, 2026, the Catholic Church celebrates the liturgical feast of the Queenship of Mary. This observance honors the Virgin Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth, a title rooted in her divine motherhood and her role in the work of human redemption.

The feast was formally instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1954 through the encyclical ‘Ad Coeli Reginam’. While originally set for May 31, the date was later moved to August 22 to serve as a liturgical extension of the Feast of the Assumption.
