Queensland lobbies to host 2028 NRL Grand Final

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli is lobbying to host the 2028 NRL Grand Final as an alternative to Sydney. The move comes amid concerns that a planned visit by the Pope to Sydney on the same day could create significant logistical challenges for public transport, police, and other resources.

NRL Chairman Peter V’landys noted that while the league maintains loyalty to New South Wales, the organization must consider all business contingencies. Western Australia has also expressed interest in hosting the event following the introduction of the Perth Bears.

In other sporting news, the ACT Brumbies will face the NSW Waratahs in Bungendore on 13 September as part of the Super Rugby AUS tournament. Additionally, Swimming Australia has named the Brisbane Aquatic Centre as the host venue for the Australian Age, Multi-Class Age, and Australian Open Championships in 2027 and 2029.

In the QAFLW, Coorparoo secured a seven-point victory over Wilston Grange to claim the second spot in the finals, while the Panthers defeated the University of Queensland by 49 points.
