Queensland communities celebrate Seniors Month with local programs
Various local councils in Queensland are hosting programs and events throughout October to celebrate Seniors Month, focusing on social connection, wellbeing, and community recognition.
On the Sunshine Coast, the council is promoting the Healthy Sunshine Coast program, which offers over 90 low-cost activities such as yoga, Pilates, and meditation. Additional support includes falls prevention workshops, free library events, and affordable door-to-door transport services via Council Link.
In the Mareeba Shire, the council is organizing free Seniors Morning Teas to facilitate social interaction and provide access to information expos featuring local service providers. While the primary Mareeba event is fully booked, other community celebrations, such as art workshops in Kuranda, are being supported to ensure residents can participate in the month-long program.
