Queensland government commits $50 million to screen sector

The Queensland government has announced a $50 million investment over the next two years to bolster the state’s screen sector. Administered through Screen Queensland, the funding is part of a ten-year arts strategy titled ‘Queensland’s Time to Shine’ and aims to strengthen the pipeline of local productions while creating jobs for creative professionals.

In addition to this new commitment, the government is providing over $9.9 million through 2028-29 to support the operations of Screen Queensland Studios Brisbane. Ongoing operational support is also being provided for the Cairns studios to maintain production activity in the far north.

Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek stated that the investment is intended to maintain Queensland’s reputation as a premier production destination. Recent notable projects filmed in the state include ‘Two Years Later’, ‘Black Snow’, ‘Fortitude Valley’, and the action thriller ‘Runner’. Screen Queensland reported supporting 117 projects and generating approximately $541.8 million in direct production expenditure and over 6,600 employment opportunities during the 2025–26 period.
