Queensland launches critical minerals strategy to boost sector
The Queensland Government released the four‑year "Delivering Queensland’s Critical Minerals Future 2026–30" strategy, outlining actions to accelerate extraction, processing and export of critical minerals and to position the state as a globally recognised supplier for secure supply chains. The plan follows a $146 million budget commitment aimed at building sovereign capability, attracting investment and expanding processing and refining activities, with the goal of creating regional jobs and long‑term economic growth.
Mining and Resources Minister Dale Last said the strategy provides confidence, certainty and long‑term policy stability for investors, noting reduced red tape and streamlined approvals. He highlighted strong interest from overseas firms, including investors from Indonesia and Japan, who are attracted by the promise of stable, decades‑long support for critical‑minerals projects in Queensland.
