Queensland launches Get Ready Week for severe weather season
Authorities in Queensland are urging residents to prepare for the upcoming Higher-Risk Weather Season (HRWS) through the Get Ready Queensland Week, running from October 5 to 11.
State Disaster Coordinator Chris Stream and ambassador Johnathan Thurston officially launched the campaign, emphasizing that preparation is essential for mitigating the impact of cyclones, floods, fires, and storms. Queensland Police Service officials have issued specific warnings regarding floodwaters, reminding the public that entering flooded areas is extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal outcomes or legal penalties.
Local officials, including Logan City Councillor Jon Raven, are encouraging households to spend at least 30 minutes preparing by assembling emergency kits, securing important documents, and planning evacuation routes. Residents are also advised to include pets in their emergency planning and to utilize local disaster dashboards for real-time information.
