Queensland Literary Awards announce 2026 winners

Queensland Literary Awards Brisbane Writers Festival Australian literature Lenora Thaker Helena Pantsis

The 2026 Queensland Literary Awards winners were announced during the Brisbane Writers Festival, held from October 8 to 11.

Key winners include Lenora Thaker for the Queensland Premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance with ‘The Pearl of Tagai Town’, Helena Pantsis for the biennial Steele Rudd Award for a short story collection with ‘Mother Salad’, and Eunice Andrada for the Judith Wright Calanthe Award for a poetry collection with ‘KONTRA’.

The awards have undergone several administrative shifts, moving from the State Library of Queensland to being part of the Brisbane Writers Festival. This follows previous controversies regarding political interference in the awards process.
