Australian police charge multiple men over AI‑generated sexual exploitation material

A 52‑year‑old Queensland man was arrested and charged with 43 offences after police discovered AI‑generated deepfake posters that super‑imposed women’s faces onto explicit images. The posters, displayed publicly in Gatton and other locations since 2021, identified eight victims and included personal details. Charges include 27 counts of distributing intimate images, six counts of unlawful stalking, possession of firearms and explosives, and offences using postal and electronic services. He was remanded in custody pending a court appearance on 19 August.

Separate investigations across Australia have also led to charges for AI‑generated child sexual material. A 26‑year‑old man in South Australia was charged with possessing and producing AI‑created child exploitation content after a police raid seized electronic devices. In Queensland, a 73‑year‑old former teacher was charged with creating and possessing AI‑generated explicit images of staff and students. In Western Australia, Dr Peter Charles Swift, a 68‑year‑old cancer specialist, pleaded guilty to eight child‑exploitation offences, including the production of AI‑generated videos involving children. All suspects face court proceedings and highlight law‑enforcement concerns over the misuse of artificial‑intelligence technology.
