Queensland Minister Amanda Camm resigns from cabinet

Queensland Child Safety Minister Amanda Camm has resigned from the state cabinet, stepping down from her roles as Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services, and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence.

Camm stated her decision to resign was “mine and mine alone,” citing health concerns and her recovery from recent surgery as primary factors. She also noted that recent attacks on Helen Haines influenced her choice. Premier David Crisafulli confirmed the resignation, defending Camm by stating she entered a “broken system” and had consistently prioritized the concerns of vulnerable women and children.

The resignation follows several controversies, including public scrutiny regarding an undeclared romantic relationship with fellow cabinet member and Sport Minister Tim Mander. There were also questions regarding potential conflicts of interest and adherence to the parliamentary code of conduct. Additionally, the minister faced pressure following reports that a domestic violence reform oversight office had failed to provide progress updates for 16 months, and recent industrial action by child safety and youth justice workers.
