Queensland officials confirm Rockhampton as 2032 Olympic rowing venue
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has reaffirmed that the 2032 Olympic rowing and canoeing events will be held in Rockhampton on the Fitzroy River, despite ongoing criticism regarding the venue.
Critics have raised several concerns about the regional site, including the presence of nearby crocodile habitats, the impact of tidal currents on competitive fairness, and a lack of sufficient accommodation for athletes and spectators. Additionally, delegates from Britain, New Zealand, and Germany have relayed athlete concerns to organizers, noting a petition from Australian rowers requesting the venue be moved closer to Brisbane.
World Rowing is currently conducting a technical assessment to evaluate the suitability of the Fitzroy River for the Olympic regatta.
