Queensland Police charge teens after serious assault in Coomera

Queensland Police are investigating a serious assault on a 66-year-old man at the Westfield Coomera shopping centre on September 22. The victim, identified as Chris Price, was allegedly approached by a group of young people and assaulted by two males. During the incident, the man fell and sustained a serious head injury, requiring transport to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious condition.

A 15-year-old from Eagleby and a 16-year-old from Springfield Lakes have been charged in connection with the assault. The 15-year-old remains in custody, while the 16-year-old was granted bail.

Additionally, a 13-year-old boy from Upper Coomera has been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act for publishing footage of the offending behaviour. Detective Inspector Mark Mooney stated that “publishing footage of certain offending behaviour can constitute a criminal offence” and warned that online actions can have serious consequences. Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
