Queensland police crack down on property crime in Far North region

Police in Far North Queensland are reporting significant results from ongoing operations targeting property crime. Under Operation Yankee Forge, which launched in February, authorities have charged 790 people with 2,241 offences. This includes 359 young people charged with 1,429 offences and 431 adults charged with 812 offences. Recent arrests include a 16-year-old boy allegedly involved in a vehicle theft and two teenagers arrested following a break-in at a Green Island resort.

Simultaneously, the Tablelands Property Crime Unit has charged more than 200 offenders with 868 offences during its first six months of operation. The unit, established by the State Government in February to combat serious repeat offenders and vehicle theft, has charged 142 adults and 85 juveniles. The unit utilizes a coordinated approach involving detectives, plain-clothes officers, tactical squads, and POLAIR to disrupt criminal activity in the region.
