Queensland police seize firearms disguised as mobile phones

Police in Queensland have seized firearms designed to resemble mobile phones during a series of raids. Following an investigation by the Tactical Crime Squad, officers raided a residence in Deception Bay on August 2, where they allegedly discovered two handguns capable of folding into a shape resembling a mobile phone.

In addition to the disguised weapons, authorities recovered two pistols, ammunition, and various drugs, including methylamphetamine, GHB, cannabis, and ketamine. A stolen motorcycle was also seized. Four men, aged between 37 and 52, have been charged and are scheduled to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on August 31.

Separate raids conducted near Ipswich and west of Brisbane resulted in further charges. In one instance, a 38-year-old man was charged after police found two homemade firearms, two crossbows, and firearm silencers. Detective Inspector Michael Manago warned that homemade firearms are “inherently unpredictable” and pose a significant risk to community and officer safety.
