Queensland Premier addresses CFMEU inquiry and school upgrades

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has declined to commit to appointing a special prosecutor regarding the ongoing $95 million inquiry into the construction sector. The inquiry, which has been running for 28 months, is investigating allegations of criminality involving the CFMEU, the police service, the former Labor government, and major building firms. While figures including barrister Geoffrey Watson SC and Transparency International have called for a special prosecutor to ensure evidence is pursued toward criminal charges, Crisafulli stated, “Let’s see where it goes, and let’s see what unfolds and where things head.”

In a separate development, the Premier announced the opening of upgraded facilities at the Cairns State Special School. The expansion includes two new buildings, eight learning spaces, therapy and sensory rooms, and new outdoor learning areas. The project is part of a broader government investment aimed at expanding special school infrastructure across Queensland to support students with diverse needs.
