Queensland Premier unveils new veterans' support strategy

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has unveiled the Veterans and Veterans’ Families Strategy 2026-32, a six-year plan aimed at supporting the state's approximately 163,000 veterans and boosting the economy.

The 23-page strategy focuses on five key areas: education and employment, health, housing and support, veterans in business, and community, sport, commemoration, and recognition. Proposed initiatives include creating pathways for veterans to enter trades and professions like teaching, adjusting procurement policies to favor veteran-owned businesses, and supporting housing programs for veteran families.

While RSL Queensland president Major General Stephen Day endorsed the plan as a step toward helping veterans belong and contribute to their communities, Labor leader Steven Miles criticized the document for being a year late and lacking specific details and commitments.
