Queensland rail network to implement new digital communication system

The Queensland Government is implementing a new Digital Radio System (DRS) as part of 'The Wave', a major infrastructure program connecting Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. This project aims to enhance the capacity, reliability, and efficiency of the rail network in South East Queensland, one of Australia's fastest-growing regions.

Frequentis is providing the mission-critical data and track gateway functions necessary for secure digital train control. This system supports Alstom's European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 and establishes the foundation for the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS). The technological upgrades are being conducted in preparation for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane. The communication work package is being implemented by UGL Transport in collaboration with Ericsson and Frequentis.
