Queensland Rail recruits record number of Authorised Officers
Queensland Rail has completed its largest-ever recruitment intake of Authorised Officers to enhance passenger safety and security across its network. The group includes 35 new recruits—comprising 33 patrolling officers and two operations coordinators—who are undergoing 12 weeks of intensive training following a rigorous selection process.
Once deployed, the total number of Authorised Officers will reach nearly 70. These employees hold special legislative powers to deter antisocial behavior, enforce behavioral standards, and support the Queensland Police Service. Their duties include conducting corridor patrols, participating in joint operations during major events, and managing rail safety tasks.
The new recruits come from diverse professional backgrounds, including previous roles within Queensland Rail as porters and track workers, as well as experience in the navy, mining, trades, and hospital security. This expansion follows a new station staff roster implemented in May 2026 designed to optimize staff presence based on customer demand.
