Queensland students showcase STEM manufacturing skills
Students across Queensland are participating in the STEM Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills School Program, culminating in industry showcases in cities including Mackay and Townsville. The program introduces primary and secondary students to the advanced manufacturing sector by tasking them with investigating real-world industry challenges and proposing potential solutions.
Participants utilize 3D design and printing technology through Makers Empire to develop their projects. Participating schools receive a learning package valued at $7,500, which includes 3D printers, filament, technical support, and a three-year subscription to design software.
At the showcase events, students present their findings to industry panels. Senior secondary students are also given the opportunity to pitch their projects to a ‘shark tank’ style panel. The initiative is delivered by Queensland Manufacturing Hubs and Makers Empire as part of a program from the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development.
