Queensland targets major football events with Brazil friendly matches

Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell has announced a strategic pivot toward hosting more major football events to boost the state's tourism sector. To celebrate upcoming friendly matches between the Socceroos and Brazil, the government has planned Brazilian-style street parties in Brisbane.

The two matches are scheduled for September 25 in Townsville and September 29 in Brisbane. The Brazilian squad, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, features high-profile players including Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, and Bruno Guimaraes.

Powell noted that Queensland has missed significant opportunities over the last decade, as the state has not hosted a competitive football match since the 2015 Asian Cup. He expressed a commitment to making Queensland a premier destination for international football, including future World Cup qualifiers.
