Quentin Deranque death prompts new complaints against far‑right activists in Lyon

Two individuals who were themselves indicted in the February 12 killing of 23‑year‑old activist Quentin Deranque have filed civil complaints accusing 15 ultra‑right militants of pre‑meditated violence, use of weapons and masked assaults. The complaints aim to grant the plaintiffs access to investigation files and to become civil parties in the case.

Deranque was providing security for the identitarian collective Némésis during a protest outside Sciences Po Lyon that turned violent when far‑left antifascist demonstrators confronted masked ultra‑right militants. He was beaten on the ground, taken to hospital and died two days later. A judicial inquiry led by three judges of instruction has charged nine people, including former parliamentary aide Jacques‑Élie Favrot, with murder‑related offences. Lawyers for the accused claim procedural obstacles hinder the defence’s access to evidence.
