Quentin Tarantino criticizes modern Hollywood and Star Wars prequels

Film director Quentin Tarantino has expressed strong criticism regarding the current state of the movie industry, describing Hollywood as a “flavourless sausage factory.” In a column for Sight and Sound Magazine, the director stated that since the pandemic, he has found it difficult to engage with new films due to perceived flaws, audience pandering, and miscasting.

Tarantino noted that he has largely opted to read books rather than watch new releases, claiming that recent cinema lacks the ability to sweep him away as it once did. While he acknowledged a few recent films like “West Side Story” and “Horizon: An American Saga,” he suggested that the quality of modern filmmaking has declined significantly compared to previous decades.

In addition to his critiques of the industry at large, Tarantino has shared specific opinions on major franchises. In discussions with director Edgar Wright, Tarantino expressed dissatisfaction with the Star Wars prequel trilogy, noting that he did not enjoy the first two installments and only found the third, “Revenge of the Sith,” to be “not so bad.”
