Queretaro Culture Secretariat Launches Five‑Century Regional History Congress
The State Secretariat of Culture (SECULT) announced a multidisciplinary congress titled “Five Centuries of the Queretaro Region: Settlement and Repopulation.” The event will run from 9 to 12 September 2024 at three venues: the Portal del Diezmo in San Juan del Río, the Ex Hacienda de Apapátaro in Huimilpan, and the Centro de las Artes in Querétaro city. Secretary of Culture Ana Paola López Birlain said the gathering aims to strengthen research and dissemination of the region’s historic heritage, bringing together academics, chroniclers, historians and cultural specialists. Coordinating academic Oliva Solís Hernández described the congress as a space for reflection, debate and the presentation of new interpretive proposals on the conquest, settlement, repopulation and cultural transformation of the area over the past five centuries. Participants include representatives of municipal chroniclers’ associations and SECULT’s heritage director Gustavo Sánchez Rivera.
