Querétaro advances management programs for new protected areas

The Municipality of Querétaro is advancing the development of management programs for Cañada Bolaños and Cerro Colorado, two newly designated Natural Protected Areas (ANP). Through the Secretariat of the Environment, the local government has conducted several citizen participation workshops to integrate local knowledge into environmental planning.

Cerro Colorado and Cañada Bolaños are categorized as Ecological Preservation Zones of Population Centers and subcategorized as Intra-urban Parks. The workshops included residents, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and representatives from municipal, state, and federal government agencies. Lupita Espinosa de los Reyes Ayala, the Secretary of the Environment, emphasized that involving those who live near and interact with these spaces is essential for defining actions to conserve and protect them for future generations.
