Querétaro art auction supports addiction recovery

The State Council Against Addictions (CECA) and the Querétaro State Secretariat of Culture (SECULT) held an auction for the 2026 “Expresa tu talento” art contest. The event, held at M108 Curaduría and presided over by State Health Secretary María Martina Pérez Rendón, aimed to provide artistic expression for individuals in residential addiction treatment facilities and patients at Community Mental Health and Addiction Centers (CECOSAMA).

Ten artworks, selected from over 100 entries, were sold for a total of 56,800 pesos. For the nine works created by residents of treatment facilities, 80% of the proceeds go to the artist, while 20% is allocated to their respective rehabilitation centers to support activities. In the case of the work produced by a CECOSAMA Santa María Magdalena patient, 100% of the proceeds went to the author.

Culture Secretary Ana Paola López Birlain noted that such initiatives use art as a tool for expression, coexistence, and strengthening community ties. CECA Commissioner Sebastián Granados Ponce stated the project was inspired by personal experiences with residents, seeking to create a space where people in recovery can express their way of living and thinking.
