Querétaro authorities arrest two suspects for grave robbing

The State Attorney General's Office in Querétaro has arrested two men, identified as Carlos “N” (alias “El Caled”) and Luis “N” (alias “El Verzo”), for allegedly desecrating graves and stealing valuables from the deceased.

Following investigations by the Specialized Unit for the Investigation and Prosecution of Feminicide, authorities conducted simultaneous operations and home searches in the capital of Querétaro. The suspects are accused of crimes against the respect for the dead and violating burial and exhumation regulations. They reportedly entered cemeteries clandestinely to exhume bodies and steal jewelry and other belongings.

The arrests follow reports of systematic looting in municipalities including Querétaro, Santa Rosa Jáuregui, and San Juan del Río. Both individuals have been placed at the disposal of a control judge to determine their legal status, while investigations continue to identify potential accomplices.
