Querétaro authorities initiate controlled dam discharges

Authorities in Querétaro are conducting controlled water discharges from several dams following heavy rainfall and increased runoff from Guanajuato. The El Carmen dam in El Marqués reached 100% capacity, prompting officials to open 50% of its valves to reduce water levels to safer operating margins dictated by the National Water Commission (Conagua).

Other regional water bodies are also being monitored. The El Diablo dam in El Marqués is at 90% capacity with no reported incidents, while the Jalpan dam is operating slightly below maximum capacity, with gates open for irrigation purposes. The Querétaro River remains at 20% capacity.

Heavy rains on September 8 caused localized flooding, drainage issues, and stranded vehicles in the metropolitan area, specifically affecting areas such as Av. Corregidora Norte and the Benito Juárez Industrial Zone. No injuries or fatalities were reported in connection with these weather events.
