Querétaro dams reach 48% average storage capacity
Dams in the state of Querétaro are currently at 48% of their total storage capacity, according to Javier Amaya Torres, director general of the State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPCQ). While the state maintains a margin of over 50% ahead of upcoming rains, certain reservoirs have reached their limits.
The El Carmen dam in El Marqués is operating at 100% capacity under the management policies of the National Water Commission (Conagua). Additionally, the Jalpan dam has reached its storage limit and is currently discharging water freely under the supervision of CEPCQ personnel to manage river levels.
Regarding seasonal incidents, officials reported one instance where a rising river blocked access to the Santa María de los Cocos community. In response, an emergency zipline was implemented to transport food and medicine until water levels receded and transit became possible again.
