Querétaro DIF reports 22 minors flagged as probable crime suspects amid food aid distribution

The State System for Integral Family Development (DIF) in Querétaro reported that 22 children under the age of 12 have been identified as probable responsible parties in criminal cases during 2026. The cases include 11 instances of sexual abuse, five involving firearm possession, and six classified as aggravated rape. Óscar Gómez Niembro, director of the agency, said, “Menores de 12 años que han estado en contacto con la Ley penal… hay que seguir el proceso y se determine el proceso.” The DIF provides legal accompaniment when possible and steps in as a substitute guardian when minors lack family support.

In the same period, the agency distributed 5,682 food parcels to 4,103 individuals across all 18 municipalities of Querétaro, part of its “Nosotros Vamos” program that delivers aid directly to households. Gómez Niembro highlighted that the initiative aims to strengthen food security for vulnerable families and reinforce the institution’s commitment to social assistance.
