Querétaro emerges as a destination for foreign residents

Querétaro has established itself as a destination for foreign populations rather than just a transit point, according to Jorge Luis Montes Nieves, head of the National Institute of Migration (INM) in the state. The Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) records approximately 800 foreign entries per day, driven by work, studies, business, and family ties.

Most foreign residents in the state maintain regular legal status. Notable communities include individuals from India and the United States, including retirees. Other significant groups include nationals from Honduras, Guatemala, Venezuela, Cuba, and Colombia. While irregular migration occurs, exact figures are difficult to determine due to the lack of official records.

The INM reported that the Ejido Modelo migratory station is fully operational with a capacity for 44 people. The facility provides medical, dental, and psychological services, as well as legal counsel. In July, 44 individuals in irregular situations were processed, resulting in 17 deportations while others were permitted to stay or regularize their status.
