Querétaro expands hotel capacity amid rising tourism projections
Querétaro is experiencing significant growth in its tourism sector, with the state's hotel supply increasing by 10% to 15% compared to previous years. According to Rodrigo Ibarra Lozano, director of Tourism Promotion for the state's Secretariat of Tourism, there are currently approximately 1,800 lodging establishments providing 22,400 available rooms.
Projections for 2026 suggest the state will welcome around 26 million tourists, an increase of 1.8 million over the 24.2 million visitors reported at the end of 2025. The final quarter of the year is considered a critical period for reaching this goal due to seasonal celebrations such as Day of the Dead and Christmas.
Domestic tourism remains the primary driver, accounting for 75% to 80% of visitors, mostly from Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and the Bajío region. International tourism is also seeing growth, particularly through direct air connections to Madrid, which report a 95% occupancy rate.
