Querétaro extends alcohol license renewal deadline to August 31

The Government of Querétaro has extended the deadline for renewing alcohol sales licenses until August 31. This extension includes a waiver of up to 100% on fines and surcharges to help businesses regularize their commercial activities. Currently, approximately 65% of the state's 4,945 licenses have been renewed. Costs for these permits range from $5,000 to $25,000 depending on the type of establishment.

In a related context regarding business operations in the capital, Eduardo Chávez Hidalgo, president of Canacope in Querétaro, identified regulatory requirements and rising costs as primary drivers for business closures. While the municipality reported 2,156 new business openings and 766 closures as of July, Canacope noted that difficulties in meeting requirements—such as land use permits and civil protection rulings—alongside increased fees for operating licenses have contributed to these closures.
