Querétaro faces gender inequality and 19.7% wage gap
Querétaro continues to struggle with significant gender inequalities regarding economic opportunities and access to justice. Governor Mauricio Kuri González acknowledged during the CEFIM Women's Congress in San Juan del Río that despite progress, the state still faces challenges in achieving true balance between men and women.
Data from the Secretary of Labor indicates a 19.7% wage gap between men and women in the state, with the highest concentrations found in San Juan del Río and the metropolitan area. According to the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), Querétaro ranks third among Mexican states with the highest wage gap, following Guerrero and Morelos.
Labor Secretary Liliana San Martín Castillo identified maternity-related job attrition and traditional caregiving roles as primary drivers of this disparity. While the administration has created 6,000 new formal employment spaces for women over the last five years and implemented the 'Sin Brecha' program to promote workplace equality, officials noted that efforts must be reinforced to close the gap.
