Querétaro formal jobs dip in June 2026 despite modest annual growth

In June 2026 the Mexican state of Querétaro reported 722,938 workers covered by the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), a monthly decline of 416 jobs from May but an annual increase of 0.96 % compared with June 2025. The rise represents 6,859 additional formal positions year‑on‑year and places the state’s growth below the national average of about 2 %.

The bulk of employment remains concentrated in the municipality of Querétario, which alone accounts for 441,697 formal jobs (roughly 61 % of the state total). The next largest locales are El Marqués (108,214), San Juan del Río (68,616) and Corregidora (38,549), together comprising about 90 % of all formal jobs in the state.

Nationally, IMSS recorded a record 22.78 million formal jobs for June, the highest June total on record and the third highest month overall. Querétaro’s labour market still leads the country in quality indicators, with the state topping the Índice de Competitividad Estatal for labour quality and registering the lowest labour‑poverty rate at 19.8 %. State labour secretary Liliana San Martín Castillo said, “En Querétaro seguimos generando las condiciones para que más personas accedan a un empleo formal,” emphasizing ongoing policies to boost job creation and inclusion.
