Querétaro health officials launch preventive operation for Tepeyac pilgrimage
The Secretariat of Health of the state of Querétaro organized an inter‑institutional coordination meeting in Jalpan de Serra to prepare a preventive health operation for the annual foot pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe (Tepeyac). The meeting, led by Antonio Hernández García, director of Jurisdicción Sanitaria No. 4, brought together state, municipal, civil‑protection and public‑security authorities, as well as representatives of pilgrim associations from Arroyo Seco, Jalpan de Serra, Landa de Matamoros and Pinal de Amoles.
The program includes epidemiological surveillance, protection against sanitary risks, health promotion, on‑site medical attention and a response plan for any eventualities along the route. Participants reviewed the regional epidemiological situation, especially dengue and other infectious threats, and agreed on measures to reduce risks for both pilgrims and the communities they will cross. Coordinated action among the different levels of government and pilgrim groups is presented as essential for a safe and healthy journey.
