Querétaro Human Rights Institute Provides 110 Legal Aid Cases for Disability Discrimination

The Municipal Institute of Human Rights and Inclusion in Querétaro has delivered 110 legal consultations concerning possible discrimination against people with disabilities. Director José Rolando Valdez Nieto said most reports involve the lack of reasonable adjustments in workplaces and schools, limiting the development of individuals with disabilities, especially children with autism.

The institute reviews each complaint, seeks conciliatory agreements with the offending organization, and, when necessary, forwards the case to higher authorities. A highlighted success involved a graduate with a hearing impairment from the Universidad Politécnica de Santa Rosa Jáuregui who secured employment at Siemens Energy, which then provided Mexican Sign Language training for its staff and adapted emergency protocols. These actions illustrate the model of inclusion the institute aims to promote across the municipality.
