Querétaro inaugurates Cuates 1 and 2 flood prevention reservoirs

The state and municipal governments of Querétaro have completed the Cuates 1 and Cuates 2 reservoir infrastructure in the Epigmenio González delegation. The joint project, representing an investment of approximately 160 million pesos, is designed to mitigate flood risks during the rainy season.

The reservoirs have a combined storage capacity of up to 90,000 cubic meters. Cuates 1 has a depth of nine meters, while Cuates 2 reaches twelve meters. This infrastructure, working alongside the Peñuelas Drain, allows for the capture of six times more water than previous systems.

Hydraulic calculations indicate an input of 50 cubic meters per second, with a maximum controlled output of seven cubic meters per second toward the Peñuelas stream. This mechanism is expected to reduce the flow reaching downstream neighborhoods, such as Menchaca and Santa María Magdalena, by up to 86 percent.
