Querétaro inaugurates monumental Day of the Dead altar
The monumental altar titled ‘Guardianes del Patrimonio’ (Guardians of Heritage) has been inaugurated in Plaza de Armas, Querétaro. The installation stands 14 meters long and five meters high, featuring a three-level architecture inspired by the state's traditional arches.
The structure includes 17 commemorative niches dedicated to traditional cooks, artisans, musicians, writers, dancers, and knowledge bearers who have helped preserve the region's cultural richness. During the inauguration, Governor Mauricio Kuri González and State Tourism Secretary Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado emphasized that the installation serves to strengthen local identity and recognize those who contribute to the state's cultural heritage.
The inauguration is part of a broader Day of the Dead festival, which includes activities such as the 12 Neighborhood Altars in Plaza Constitución, artistic workshops, themed tours, and the traditional Catrina and Catrín parade.
