Querétaro introduces geolocation tags for pets

The Municipality of Querétaro has introduced geolocation tags for pets to prevent loss and promote responsible ownership. Announced by Mayor Felifer Macías during the first Animal Welfare Race 2026 at La Queretana Park, the initiative allows owners to track their pets' real-time location via smartphone.

The initial phase involves the distribution of 500 tags that attach to pet collars. This program will be a permanent campaign managed by the Secretariat of Animal Welfare, where interested citizens can apply for the devices. This technological addition complements existing municipal services, including sterilization, vaccination campaigns across seven delegations, and microchip identification.
