Querétaro mobility officials face protests over bus lane changes

Citizen collectives in Querétaro protested at the Agencia de Movilidad del Estado de Querétaro (AMEQ) and on Constituyentes Avenue to demand respect for dedicated public transport lanes. The demonstrations follow a government decision to open QroBús bus lanes to private vehicles to ease traffic in the Milenio area. Protesters, including representatives from Pedaleanda, argued that authorities are prioritizing private cars over public mobility and have failed to fulfill previous agreements made with Governor Mauricio Kuri, such as maintaining bike lanes and creating cyclist interconnections.

Separately, AMEQ Director Gerardo Cuanalo Santos announced the development of a new mobile application in coordination with the Metropolitan Council. The app will allow citizens to request authorized towing services, check the inventory of impounded vehicles, and pay fines and storage fees electronically.

Regarding public transit, Cuanalo Santos reported that the QroBús system has seen a 126% increase in ridership. He noted that the fleet has been 90% renewed, routes have expanded from 71 to 126, and the system currently operates 1,000 units with an average frequency of 17 minutes.
