Querétaro infrastructure: Highway 57 works impact local roads
Infrastructure projects and road maintenance are causing significant logistical challenges in Querétaro. Ongoing works on Federal Highway 57 have led to increased traffic on municipal roads, causing accelerated wear and tear. State officials have requested federal assistance to restore these local roads, noting that the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport has committed to completing the highway project by the end of September.
In San Juan del Río, the State Infrastructure Commission is launching a 20-million-peso rehabilitation project covering 7,000 square meters of main arteries, including Avenida Luis Romero Soto. These works are expected to last three months and will include restrictions on heavy cargo vehicles to improve mobility.
Meanwhile, political tension has emerged regarding the Highway 57 works. Residents of the Constituyentes corridor recently reported that a scheduled meeting with the SICT delegate, Carlos García, did not take place. Governor Mauricio Kuri González has addressed accusations regarding local protests, stating the state does not promote demonstrations against the federal government.
