Querétaro: One dead in Independence Day caravan brawl
A violent altercation during Independence Day celebrations in the community of La Versolilla, located in the Santa Rosa Jáuregui delegation of Querétaro, resulted in one death and at least one person severely injured. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during a vehicle caravan.
The confrontation escalated from verbal arguments to physical violence and the use of firearms. State Attorney General Víctor Antonio De Jesús Hernández confirmed that an investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
Querétaro Municipal President Felipe Fernando Macías Olvera noted that while the brawl occurred in the afternoon, the official evening celebrations in the Historic Center remained peaceful, reporting a ‘saldo blanco’ (no further incidents) for the night. Local security officials indicated the conflict may have stemmed from a dispute between residents of La Versolilla and La Gotera. Three individuals intoxicated and acting aggressively toward officers were detained at the scene.
