Querétaro posts modest formal job growth and boosted business confidence in 2026

In June 2026 the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported that formal employment in Querétaro rose 1% year‑on‑year, placing the state 11th among 32 federal entities. Nationally, IMSS recorded a total of 22.78 million jobs, the highest June figure on record. The strongest sectoral gains were in transport and communications (+15.8%), extractives (+3.9%) and social services (+3.0%), while agriculture and manufacturing saw declines.

A separate INEGI survey showed that business sentiment in Querétaro improved, with the Global Business Outlook Indicator climbing to 50.8 points in June 2026, just above the 50‑point confidence threshold. The manufacturing sub‑index reached 52.2, up 1.6 points and staying above 50 for six consecutive months. Manufacturing employs about 24.9% of the state’s workforce and added roughly 17,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2026, while commerce accounts for 16.2% of employment. Despite a 0.3% annual dip in overall economic activity reported for Q3 2025, the latest indicators suggest a more optimistic outlook for the second half of the year.
