Querétaro ranks second among Mexican capitals for safety perception

The Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI) released results of its National Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU) for April‑June 2026 showing that Querétaro city placed second among Mexico’s state capitals for perceived safety, trailing only Saltillo. Mayor Felifer Macías attributed the improvement to the integrated Plan Orden, which includes park rehabilitation, better lighting, graffiti removal, street cleaning, increased municipal police presence and the Civic Guard, coordinated with Governor Mauricio Kuri, state police, the state prosecutor, the National Guard and the army.

The survey recorded the municipal police’s performance perception rising from 66.2 % to 72.6 % and confidence in the force increasing from 66.5 % to 71.6 %. Perceived insecurity fell by ten percentage points compared with the same period a year earlier. The city aims to maintain the ranking and eventually claim the top spot.
