Querétaro State Hit by Federal Funding Cut, Receives Infrastructure Boost

The government of Querétaro announced a reduction of about 1.8 billion pesos in federal transfers for 2026, a 4.4% drop from the previous year. Governor Mauricio Kuri González said the cut reflects slower national economic growth, higher oil prices and tighter federal finances, and it mainly affects public‑works spending. The state is seeking additional resources, including higher payroll‑tax revenues, to sustain priority projects and security funding.

In the same period, the state will receive a new federal allocation of roughly 1.5 billion pesos for infrastructure. Carlos García Villaseñor, director of the Centro SICT Querétaro, said the funds will accelerate road, bridge and railway projects, including work on Federal Highway 120, the rehabilitation of Highway 57, and new rail‑related works. The investment marks a significant increase from the previous year's budget and aims to improve mobility and long‑term infrastructure quality in the state.
