Querétaro traffic to face weeks of disruption from Mexico‑Querétaro train works

Construction of the Tren México‑Querétaro will begin on boulevard Bernardo Quintana on 13 July and run through 30 August. The federal project will reduce the number of lanes on a stretch that sees about 150,000 vehicles daily, prompting the municipal mayor, Felipe Fernando “Felifer” Macías, to warn residents that “weeks will be very complicated for mobility.” Work will be carried out 24 hours a day to finish before the school‑year restart, and officials plan partial closures, contraflows, 25 intervention points, more than 60 signs, flash‑ing traffic lights and over 160 auxiliary traffic personnel in three shifts.

The state’s Agency of Mobility (AMEQ) announced that, on 8 July, Qrobus will return to its regular routes in the El Cerrito area after the federal bridge works there were completed, ending the temporary free‑service route that had been in place. The agency also urged commuters to use navigation apps such as Google Maps and Waze for real‑time updates.

In addition, the mayor said the municipal and state governments will each remove about 1,000 vehicles from the streets during the construction period, encouraging home‑office and remote‑learning measures to further ease traffic congestion.
